Battle of Ortona: December. 20 - 27, 1943
Canadians won a major battle which was part of the Italian Campaign called the Battle of Ortona. They took the natural fortress and the town from The First German Parachute Division.
Historical Significance:
This battle was very significant for Canada. During the battle, Canadians invented a combat technique called "mouse holing". The Canadian victory was also a factor in causing the citizens of Italy lose their morale for the war and rise up against Mussolini and kill him.
